A leaf sheep (Costasiella kuroshimae) is a tiny, adorable species of sea slug—or sacoglossan sea slug—that looks remarkably like a cartoon sheep or a leaf. Found in shallow tropical waters near Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines, these creatures are famous for being one of the few animals in the world that can perform photosynthesis.

The Art of Discovery: Directing and Editing Documentary

Monday, July 27 In this masterclass, Lindsay Utz explores the creative exchange between directing and editing—and how each discipline shapes the other. Drawing on her work across films including Prime Minister, American Factory, and Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, she reveals how decisions made in the field directly inform the editorial process, and how the edit ultimately becomes a powerful act of authorship. Through clips and discussion, the session examines how structure is built, character is revealed, and meaning evolves over time. Designed for directors and editors alike, this class offers a practical approach to thinking across both roles to create intentional, emotionally resonant films.
