–More than 200 deaths and hundreds of victims with asbestos-related lung abnormalities;
–one of the worst public health crises in U. S. history;

Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple

On the surface, Jim Jones and his multiracial congregation,

Peoples Temple , espoused the values of a model society. But in the summer of 1977 an article in New West magazine exposed the truth. Defectors and family members gave accounts of physical, sexual, and drug abuse, financial corruption, and members being held against their will. OnNovember 18, 1978, over 900 members of Peoples Temple died in the largest mass suicide/murder in history. Using never-before-seen archival footage and survivor interviews, Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple tells the story of the people who followed Jim Jones from Indiana to California and finally to the remote jungles of South America in a misbegotten quest to build an ideal society.

Hi –

I’m working with Current TV to promote their SEEDS OF
TOLERANCE contest, and we’re hoping you can help us
get this information out to any filmmakers you’e come
in cntact with via your festival!

We’re looking for 3-15 minute non fiction videos that
pose the question what does tolerance (or intolerance)
mean to you? What are your feelings on racism?
Sexism? Agism? Genocide? Homophobia? Religion?

The prize is $100k and the deadline is OCTOBER 2ND. An
additional $15k will be donated to a charity that
fights for your chosen cause. The judges are very
cool and established in the entertainment industry (Ed
Norton, M. Night Shyamalan, Paul Haggis to name a few)
and the winning films will screen on World Tolerance
Day (Nov 16), with agents and managers in the
audience.
